FIRST TIME VISITOR
WHAT TO EXPECT FOR YOUR FIRST VISIT TO THE RANGE
+ Fill out the Range Use Waiver, review the Range Rules and watch our Range Etiquette & Safety video. **We recommend you look for the yellow tab at the bottom of our webpages and get this completed BEFORE YOU COME IN to save time!**
+ Bring your completed paperwork and government-issued photo ID to the range counter to check-in. We are going to ask you some questions about the video, so PAY ATTENTION 🙂
+ During check-in, the associate at the counter will assist you with anything you may need: rental guns, ammunition, eye protection (“Eyes”), hearing protection (“Ears”), and targets. If you have any questions about the range rules, simply ask – we are here to help!
+ Go find your lane and don’t forget to put on your “Eyes” and “Ears” before entering the sound lock. If you forget what you were assigned, it is also identified on your stapler.
+ If you have any questions while on range, please do not hesitate to ask a Range Safety Officer in the yellow safety vest. However, the RSO is not there to provide shooting lessons. The RSO’s value is far more important than that. So please be brief. If you think that you need a private lesson before visiting, we would be happy to do that. Learn more here.
+ Once you are finished shooting, exit the range and return to the rental counter to check out.
FIREARMS MUST BE MUST BE CASED AND UNLOADED WHEN ENTERING THE RANGE
If you do not have a case, we can provide a loaner at our front desk. Carry firearms must be unloaded in the clearing station prior to entering the range if you plan to shoot the firearm on range. Clearing stations are available in the lobby and between Range 1 and Range 2.
Children must be at least 10 years old to shoot firearms on the range. Children under the age of 14 must be assisted at all times by a parent or guardian. No one under the age of 18 is allowed to shoot on the range without a parent or guardian. No pregnant women are allowed in the shooting ranges. Must be 21 years old to rent a handgun or purchase handgun ammunition.
When shooting semi-automatic firearms, hot brass is ejected from your gun. If you are properly clothed the potential for hot brass touching your skin is eliminated. Here are some attire suggestions to be mindful of while on range:
+ wear a hat
+ avoid low cut shirts
+ wear pants
+ wear closed-toed shoes.
RANGE AMMUNITION REQUIREMENTS
No tracer, armor piercing, steel core, buckshot, birdshot or cast ammunition is allowed.
Rifle ammunition is available for purchase for personal firearm use on the range. External rifle caliber ammunition is unauthorized and will result in immediate dismissal from the range without refund. Safety concerns and costly repairs are caused by unauthorized rifle ammo being used on the range. Please do not bring pre-loaded rifle magazines as the ammunition will not be allowed. All rifle magazines are subject to inspection at the range counter. If you are unsure if the ammunition is authorized, feel free to ask a Range Associate. Competitive market pricing on rifle ammunition is available for purchase.
All centerfire ammunition must be jacketed or semi-jacketed except slugs. Maximum rifle is 30 caliber (.308 and 7.62 are acceptable).
An alien admitted into the U.S. under a non-immigrant visa is generally prohibited from possessing/renting a firearm. There are exceptions to this legal prohibition. One such exception is when a non-immigrant alien possesses a hunting license issued by a Federal, state or local government entity. In this instance—provided no other prohibitions exist–they can legally rent and use a firearm on our licensed premises/range. If you have further questions on where to acquire a hunting license, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
All persons using the firing ranges must sign our range use agreement and waiver located at the bottom of the steps. We recommend that you grab a clipboard and have a seat at the benches to fill out your paperwork, review the range rules and wait for the start of the safety video. Regardless of experience, everyone who plans to shoot on the range is required to watch the safety video. If you have any questions about the range rules, ask the range associate during your check-in.
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Public shooting is first-come, first-serve. Membership offers the ability to make a reservation within 24-48 hours. We have everything you need for a great experience on the range. Legally, a shooter must be 21 years old to rent a handgun or purchase handgun ammunition.
When you rent a CSA firearm you must purchase our ammunition. Any firearm that is chambered in a rifle caliber or shotgun is required to have the target at the maximum distance on the range; this includes both shoulder mounted and pistol grip firearms.
Eye and ear protection are required before entering the sound lock. Once you enter the range please go to your assigned booth which is also labeled on your stapler.
ON THE RANGE
A Range Safety Officer (RSO) is always present on every open range. The RSO’s job is to maintain safety at all time and to enforce the range rules. Colonial Shooting Academy reserves the right to refuse use of the range or service to any person for any reason. Our friendly and knowledgeable RSOs will be happy to assist in any situation, please do not hesitate to ask.
The target carrier is measured in feet all the way to 75. Simply punch in the number of feet you desire then hit “enter” followed by “F1”. Repeat this process with “0” to bring it back.
Upon exiting the range please wait at the end of the counter with your stapler. One of our associates will retrieve it and return your ID and credentials to you. If you rented a firearm, return it in the basket with the slide locked back/cylinder open to show it is cleared.
